This is Africa’s first electric car, created and designed by a group of young men we call D0VE. The car was designed to promote zero vehicle emission, that is, to reduce the amount of gas emission (carbon dioxide) that is released into the atmosphere. D0VE is an acronym for Designed for Zero Vehicle Emission.
It is apparent that the African automobile market is very underdeveloped when you compare it to that of the European or Asian continent because it is nearly entirely import-driven.
The D0VE community consists of UNILAG students who have thought ahead and are now trying to alter that trend by building what can be best described as “the car of the future”, that is, the “2015 Dove P1“.
The D0VE project actually started in UNILAG back in February 2014 but right now, it has members from Bayero University Kano (BUK), Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Yaba College of Technology (Yaba Tech), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) and Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA).
D0VE’s headquarters is in Yaba, Lagos. It serves as the hub where young and creative minds converge to share innovative ideas.
D0ve strongly believes electric cars are the cars for the future. Although they are yet to get investors, they still hold on firmly to their belief.
